Materials Needed for Your Crochet Tissue Pouch
- Yarn of your choice – I used double knitting weight/
- Hook size for your yarn choice – hook used for this project – 3.5mm (UK) E/4 (US)
- Embroidery Needle
- Tissues (to measure pouch size as you go)
Optional: small buttons, embroidery thread, or fabric lining for extra flair
Stitches and Abbreviations
blo – back loop only
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
rep – repeat
sc – single crochet
sk – skip
slst – slip stitch

Gauge and Size
Finished pouch approx.: 5” × 6” (adjust by adding/removing stitches)
Gauge isn’t strict — adjust hook or yarn if needed
Step-by-Step Instructions
How to crochet a Beginner tissue pouch – free pattern
The pattern is in US terms.
1. body of the Pouch
- Ch 24.
- First row: sc in 2nd ch from the hook, sc to end, ch1 and turn.
- Second row and all even rows: sc in blo to end, ch1 and turn.
- Third row and all uneven rows: sc all sts, ch1 and turn
- Repeat rows 2 and 3 until you have completed 29 rows in total. Don’t cast off yet.
2. The scalloped edge (one side only)
- In the top edge of your tissue bag, Ch2, *sk next st, sc in following st, sk1, 6 x dc’s in next st**, rep from * to **, sc in last st.
- Don’t cast off yet!
3. Sides of the Pouch
- Lay the crochet piece flat and fold 3″ from the bottom towards the top of the pouch.
- The fold will compromise 20 rows of the tissue pouch.
- Pin the fold in place.
4. add Finishing Touches to your Handmade gift crochet project
Follow the instructions below to create your crochet tissue pouch from the rectangle (stitching it together with sc’s and slst’s).
- Continue with 9 sc’s along the side of the pouch.
- When you reach the fold: sc in both the layers – 10 sc’s.
- Bottom of the fold: slst in 24 sts across.
- Sc in both the layers – 10 sc’s.
- 9 sc’s in next 9 rows.
- Fasten off and weave in the ends.
- Button Loop: On the inside of the flap of your pouch, mark the middle of your crochet pouch, just below the scallops.
- With yarn and hook, slst into the pouch, ch15 and slst next to the entry slst.
- Secure and weave in ends.
- Sew the button to the opposite side of the tissue pouch.
Optionally, embroider small motifs or add a button closure
Insert tissues and admire your handy little creation!

IN CONCLUSION
