Lets knit a blanket, Square 2 moss stitch, free knitting pattern
Today, I am sharing the second in the KAL, knit a blanket square 2 in moss stitch!

- Knit a blanket Square 1;
- Square 3 in Trellis Stitch, with garter heart;
- Square 4 in Garter Stitch with 4 hearts.

You can alternate the patterns in different color combinations, between 4-6 different colors will suffice.
There are no rules to how many colors or how you are supposed to combine the squares either – this is your project, just use my patterns!

The square in the image has not been blocked as yet. Blocking is recommended.
KNIT A BLANKET – SQUARE 2, moss stitch
What you’ll need:
- 2 colors of the same Yarn (I used Elle Gold Double Knit (DK) yarn / Light worsted yarn)
- Knitting Needles according to the thickness of your yarn (I used 4mm, 6US, 8UK)
- Blunt Needles (stitching it together)
- The Pattern
A basic knowledge of knitting moss stitch and how to knit with 2 colors are recommended.

intarsia knitting or fair isle knitting:
The square pattern include the outlines of a heart.
You can either use the Intarsia or Fair Isle method.
*Ensure that the yarn overlaps when you are changing colors to avoid any holes in your knitting project.
The basic pattern is the same as the knitting pattern for the Easy Knit Square Pattern, but the number of stitches have been adjusted for future square designs.
Square 2 with heart outlined Pattern
Abbreviations
k – Knit
p – Purl
sts – Stitches
A – main color
B – color for heart outline
notes on the PATTERN:
The square is divided in thirds –
First part (11 sts) – knit in moss
Middle part (11sts) – knit according to the pattern
Third part (11 sts) – knit in moss
square 2 PATTERN:
Cast on 33 sts in A.
Knit as follows:-
Rows 1 to 20 – *k1, p1* to last st, k1 (moss stitch)
21st Row – *k1, p1* x 5, k1, k11, *k1, p1* to last st, k1
22nd Row – *k1, p1* x 5, k1, p11, *k1, p1* to last st, k
23rd Row – as row 21
24th Row – as row 22
25th Row – as row 21
26th Row – *k1, p1* x 5, k1 (A), p5 (A), change and join color B, p1 (B), p5 (A), *k1, p1* to last st, k1 (A)
27th Row – *k1, p1* x 5, k1 (A), k4 (A), k1 (B), k1 (A), k1 (B), k4 (A), *k1, p1* to last st, k1 (A)
28th Row – *k1, p1* x 5, k1 (A), p3 (A), p1 (B), p3 (A), p1 (B), p3(A), *k1, p1* to last st, k1 (A)
29th Row – *k1, p1* x 5, k1 (A), k2 (A), k1 (B), k5 (A), k1 (B), k2 (A), *k1, p1 to last st, k1 (A)
30th Row – *k1, p1 x 5, k1 (A), p1 (A), p1 (B), p7 (A), p1 (B), p1 (A), *k1, p1* to last st, k1 (A)
31st Row – *k1, p1* x 5, k1 (A), k1 (A), k1 (B), k3 (A), k1 (B), k3 (A), k1 (B), k1 (A), *k1, p1* to last st, k1 (A)
32nd Row – *k1, p1* x 5, k1 (A), p2 (A), p1 (B), p1 (A), p1 (B), p1 (A), p1 (B), p1 (A), p1 (B), p2 (A), *k1, p1* to last st, k1 (A)
33rd Row – *k1, p1* x 5, k1 (A), k3 (A), k1 (B), k3 (A), k1 (B), k3 (A), *k1, p1* to last st, k1 (A)
34th, 36th, 38th, 40th Rows – repeat row 22
35th, 37th, 39th Rows – repeat row 21
Rows 41 to 60 – *k1, p1* to last st, k1 (moss stitch)
Cast off and weave in ends.
in conclusion
Moss stitch is a lovely pattern, full of texture and always knits beautifully.
