NOTES BEFORE STARTING YOUR KNITTING PROJECT

You'll be knitting 6 squares the same size and one long i-cord. 

Ribbon or twine can be used instead of the i-cord. 

I used filling (for stuffed toys) but a foam cube will give you a solid square gift.



materials needed

  • Elle Gold, Double Knit/Light worsted in 2 contrasting colors (not more than 30g needed)
  • Knitting Needles according to the thickness of your yarn (I used 4mm,  6US, 8UK Knitting needles)
  • Blunt Needles (stitching it together)
  • Toy filling
  • The Pattern

size / dimensions (approximate):

Your completed present measures around 3" x 3" (8cm x 8cm).

A thicker or thinner yarn will produce a different size knitted present.

knitting pattern instructions


stitch PATTERN the knitted christmas present ornament:

*Knit 6 of the same squares.

Cast on 15 sts.

Knit 22 rows in garter stitch or until your piece is square.

Cast off.


how to knit an i-cord

Knit an i-cord in a contrasting color about 44" long (112.5cm).

With double pointed needles:

Cast on 3 sts.  

Knit these sts (which are now on the right needle) and move it to the other side of your needle (without turning).

With the left needle in your right hand, knit the sts.

Continue in the same manner until you obtain the required measurement.

Cast off.


With single pointed needles:

Cast on 3 sts.  

Knit these sts (now on the right needle).

With the left needle (and without turning), move the stitches back to the left needle again.  Your working yarn will be on the left of your knitting. 

Knit sts again, transfer it back to the left needle again.

Continue in the same manner until you obtain the required measurement.

Cast off.


sewing instructions for your present

*see diagrams #1-#3 below -

  • With right sides facing down, pack out your squares in the following manner:  4 squares in a row and 2 squares on either side of your second squares (from left) - to form a cross;
  • Neatly join your pieces together as organised;
  • Stuff with filling or your foam square;
  • The last opening will be stitched from the front;
  • Secure yarn tail and neaten before trimming.
