The Basic Knit Stitch, Knitting for Beginners
There are two main stitches in knitting, it is the basic knit stitch and the basic purl stitch.
With these two, you are going to be creating magic!
Knitting is an age-old art, but it can be modern, hip, and very elegant.

What you’ll need
2 x knitting needles – size depending on the yarn (unless you are using a circular needle);
yarn – choices of yarn will depend on:
- fibre content,
- texture,
- weight and
- ply
When choosing yarn/thread, consider both the STYLE and PURPOSE of the intended item.
ABBREVIATION
In all knitting patterns the letter “k” will represent “knit stitch”

MULTIPLES OF STITCHES ACCORDING TO YOUR PATTERN
Cast on your number of stitches;
If you used the Knit method to cast on stitches, you have basically mastered the knit stitch!

How you knit the second row – will depend on your pattern:
If you knit the 1st row and the 2nd row – all knit = you’ll create a garter stitch pattern.
If you knit the 1st row and the 2nd row – purl = you’ll be creating a stocking stitch pattern (stockinette).
