Knitting Stitches – Learn how to knit Moss Stitch ZigZag

The knit moss stitch zigzag is a vertical chevron so to speak but so versatile and lovely for any garment or item.

If you are a regular reader of my blog, you’ll know that I love anything done in moss stitch. And this pattern is no exception. All I’m thinking of at the moment are ways for you to use this pattern and I definitely have something in mind to create.

how TO KNIT moss stitch zigzag

The pattern is knit in multiples of 9 stitches over 10 rows. 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • 50g of yarn (double knit )
  • Knitting Needles according to the thickness of your yarn, I used 4mm (US – 6) (UK – 8)
  • Blunt Needles (stitching it together)
  • The Pattern

abbreviations

k       – knit

​p       – purl

​rep   – repeat

RS     – Right side

​st      – stitch

sts     – stitches

MULTIPLES OF 9

Cast on multiples of 9 stitches – my sample shown is worked over 27 stitches.

Rows 1 (RS): *(k1, p1) x 2, k4, p1; rep from * to end.

Row 2: *p4, (k1,p1) x 2, k1; rep from * to end.

Row 3: (k1, p1) x 3, *k4, (p1, k1) x 2, p1; rep from * to last 3 sts, k3.

Row 4: p2, *(k1,p1) x 2, k1, p4; rep from * to last 7 sts, (k1,p1) x 2, k1, p2.

Row 5: k3, *(p1,k1) x 2, p1, k4; rep from * to last 6 sts, (p1,k1) x 3.

Row 6: *(k1,p1) x 2, k1, p4; rep from *to end.

Row 7: As 5th row.

Row 8: As 4th row.

Row 9: As 3rd row.

Row 10: As 2nd row.

Repeat rows 1 -10

Repeat the pattern until your work is the desired length.
