Free Baby Granny Square Crochet Blanket
The classic granny square pattern is a great choice for a square design as it is an easy pattern using simple stitches.
But you may be thinking, if everyone and her sister attempt granny square projects, how can you ensure your finished blanket looks unique?
Before starting your crocheted baby blanket, consider the following:
1. Who is the blanket for?
2. How big should it be?
3. Which yarn weight are you going to use?
4. What are your color combinations?
5. Are you going to use one square pattern, two or more?
6. There is the basic granny square, or
7. Solid granny square.
8. You can opt for the daisy granny square, or
9. Granny squares with centered shapes, or what about
9. An Animal themed granny square baby blanket?
There are endless possibilities to design your gorgeous baby blanket, but let’s look at what Carina created, shall we?
Favorite yarns to use for easy crochet baby blankets
Yarn weight is a personal choice. Some crocheters prefer thicker yarn such as worsted weight yarn or Aran and others prefer double knit (DK).
Sometimes, our choices are limited to the shops we have available (can you relate?)
Here are some yarns used to crochet granny squares, on various crochet blogs:
- Caron Simply Soft yarn with a H-8 (5.00 mm) hook
- I Love This Yarn! from Hobby Lobby
- Lion Brand Basic Stitch
Self-striping yarn is another option if you love assorted colors but dread color changes. Then Lion Brand’s Mandala is the yarn just for you.
