Easy multicolored baby blanket Knitting Pattern
The beginner baby knitting pattern is such an easy project to work on whilst traveling or watching tv on a chilly night. But you don’t have to wait for the weather to cool down so much, as the blanket is about stroller size.
With the self-striping yarn and simple design, this soft blanket looks like the color transitions were all planned out. (Depending on where you live, you may call it variegated yarn or multicolored yarn/muti-colored or multi- coloured).

Beginner knitting pattern for an easy baby blanket (+VIDEO)
Grab the free and easy pattern to knit a multi-colored baby blanket with variegated yarn, mainly knitted in stocking stitch with a garter stitch border.
This beautiful blanket has just enough texture.
It’s a great knitting project producing a colorful blanket and making it a lovely gift for a baby shower.
Hand-knit blankets are rare. You and I know why.
It takes time to complete and a couple of skeins of yarn too.
The best yarn to choose for a baby blanket:
When knitting a baby blanket, you need to consider a few factors:
- Season – wool is more suitable for a winter blanket, whilst cotton or linen will work for warmer weather.
- Soft yarn – use the softest yarn for your darling baby, with no scratchiness or fuzziness.
- Yarn weight – keep the blanket as light as possible.
- Washable yarn – when you spend so much time knitting a blanket, you don’t want your cosy blanket to be ruined after the first wash.

NOTES
- The pattern is worked flat (you can use circular needles if you are familiar with using them).
- The border is worked in garter stitch, the blanket section is worked in stockinette and a few rows are in a novelty stitch pattern.
- Yarnovers in this pattern are not to increase stitches or to create lace openings, but purely to create loops to tie into bows.
- Yarn over (twice) means you wrap the yarn around the needle 2 times.
- How to create the bows:- drop the yarnovers. Pull taut and knot twice to tie the pair of loops into a bow. (See video below)
- Once you’ve dropped the yarnovers, hold the 2 loops in your left hand, and knit 2 or 3 stitches to ensure your next stitches are not too loose.
- Refer to the image below.

IN CONCLUSION:
There are always new arrivals in the family (well most families). Although my colors are for a baby girl, choose a different blend for a baby boy.
This size blanket works well to warm your grandma’s knees or if you love your doggie enough to knit the perfect gift for it, why not?
Whether you are a beginner knitter or a more experienced one, I am hoping that you will enjoy this knitting project as much as I enjoyed designing it.
