● sl st = slip stitch

● st = stitch

● sts = stitches

● ws – wrong side

Notes

1. The ch3 made at the beginning of each row counts as the first stitch of the row.

2. For a smooth edge, your last stitch should be worked into the top of the ch3 from the previous row.

Special Stitches and Repeated Patterns

The pattern is written in crochet shorthand. For example:

■ “dc 1” means to double crochet in the next stitch,

■ “dc 6” means to double crochet in each of the next 6 stitches, etc.

V stitch: in essence, V-stitch is two double crochet stitches, made in the same

stitch or chain. As with many patterns, there are a variety of patterns explaining

V-stitch, such as:

● 2 double crochet stitches in one stitch;

● or dc, followed by one chain, dc; or

● dc, ch2, dc

For purposes of this pattern, we will be making the V-stitch as follows:

dc – yarn over, insert hook in designated stitch and pull through, yarn over and pull

through the first two loops on the hook, yarn over, and pull through the last two loops on hook (=dc), ch2, and make another dc in the same stitch.

Puff stitch:

Yarn over, insert hook in the specified stitch, and pull up a loop, do this 2 more times = 7

loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through all the loops.

To create the 3-puff flower: make a puff stitch in the V-stitch 2-ch opening, ch2, puff

stitch, ch2 and another puff stitch, all in the same stitch/chain opening.
