One Row Crochet Blanket Border
This simple double crochet border with an almost zig-zag pattern will elevate any piece with minimal effort.
pattern NOTES
- To start off, fold the overlocked edge of the store-bought blanket to the wrong side — this hides the factory finish and gives you a clean area to work your stitches into.
- You’ll be crocheting directly into the flannel fabric, going around the entire blanket, working in the round, just once.
- One option is to measure the distance between stitches using a ruler and fabric marker for even spacing approximately every 1/4-inch, but it’s optional.
Step-by-Step Instructions
US Terms
- Basic pattern: dc, ch3, dc3 in space between dc’s to the right and the one before.
- Step 1 – Begin approximately 1 inch from a corner. Insert the hook just below the hemmed edge through the fabric. Pull up a loop and chain 6 (Step 2).
- Step 3 –Make 3 double crochets into the third chain from the hook.
- Step 4 – Dc about 1/4″ apart (or evenly spread out), ch3 (step 2), dc3 (Step 5)(in the opening between the first dc and the second dc (see image below).
- Continue this pattern all around the edge of the blanket.
- When you reach the first sts, finish with a sl st in the base of your first dc. Fasten off and weave in the ends (diagram 1 below).

Adding the border to a crochet blanket
- Join the color of your choice, chain 6, and make 3 dcs in the 3rd dc from the hook.
- Skip one st.
