Elongated Garter Stitch, (aka Drop Stitch), an easy Lace knitting stitch
The Elongated Garter Stitch, also known as Drop Lace Stitch, is a quick and easy knitting stitch.
The stitch is made up of bands of garter stitch and one row of elongated stitches.
You can play with the garter stitch bands and openwork, depending on the effect you desire.
Lace Knitting is normally created with yarn forward increase, which creates a hole. As you know, in knitting, if you increase, you need to decrease to keep your stitch total constant.
But with the Drop Lace Stitch, the yarn is wrapped around the needle twice and in the next row, the extra loops are simply dropped.
The Elongated Garter Stitch is a reversible stitch - it looks the same on the right and wrong sides which makes it perfect for scarves or wraps.
