How to start a blog – The Free Map Outline

Do you want to start a blog?

There is no better time than now!

Below, you will find the different processes mapped out in a guideline.

Requirements and sequence to start your own blog

Words of caution before you start

Remember your blogging journey is unique, never compare yourself to other bloggers, their successes or income reports!

Blogging Jargon

There sure are a lot of jargon and accronims around in the online world.

Most of which can be explained on Google or Pinterest.  If not, try another word or a broader explanation.

Starting your blog

  • Choose a Domain (blog) name

Decide if you are going to have a self-hosted site (blog) or not?  Self hosted sites are normally for site with very high traffic.  Your host will inform you of  the need to change, if need be.

  • Choose a Host
  • Branding (don't get stuck here)
  • Choose a Blog Theme - if you don't have a lot of               money available, start with a theme called                        GeneratePress.

Why are you starting a blog?

  • What are you going to blog about/sell?
  • Finding your Niche
  • Who is your audience?
  • Finding your blog voice (your personal style)
  • What is your mission statement and tagline?

Visualize how you want your blog to look

  • Your blog layout
  • Your About page or 'Start here' page
  • Which categories and sub-categories will appear in         your menu?
  • Static home page or not?
  • Your blog photo shoot
  • What do you want to display in your sidebar?

Before you start blogging

Should you consider pre-launching your blog

If you are pre-launching or not, start writing posts (5-10+) before you launch and create 2+ perfect pins for each (you will not publish it yet).  This is not the norm.  Most bloggers can't wait to start with their blogs.  If you can contain yourself, you will have so much more time to analyse your performance and to test what is working and what not.

  3. Hi, I don’t know of a plugin to help you. You should be able to choose in your Settings how your site will display. I am not a coder but I know my theme does not look good on mobile if my sidebar is on the left…you will have to tweak it or ask your theme developer. Hope it helps!
